Grand Central Slasher: Maurene Comey Sentenced to Nearly 30 Years

Man Sentenced to Over 25 Years for Grand Central Attack

A man involved in a random assault at Grand Central Station on Christmas Day 2023 was sentenced to more than 25 years in prison. Steven Hutcherson, 38, who was convicted of stabbing three women—including two teenage girls—appeared in Manhattan criminal court during his sentencing, rambling incoherently and making bizarre claims about being coerced by the FBI. He also name-dropped fired federal prosecutor Maurene Comey, claiming she was “next” after her recent dismissal.

Hutcherson attacked a mother and her two daughters while they were having breakfast inside the transit hub. One girl was stabbed in the back, and the other in the leg while she tried to escape. Following his arrest, he displayed further violence by slashing two fellow inmates and assaulting a correction officer during a subsequent incident.

He was convicted in June of multiple charges, including first- and second-degree assault. His behavior during his trial was described as disruptive and uncooperative, with prosecutors noting he refused to accept responsibility and continued making excuses for his actions.

District Attorney Alvin Bragg described the sentence as “a very significant prison term.” He expressed concern for the victims’ ongoing emotional trauma and emphasized the importance of public safety, stating, “We will hold those accountable who commit these acts of violence.”

The defendant was given a nearly 30-year prison term.
