Man United Signs Bryan Mbeumo in £140m Summer Deal from Brentford
Manchester United Reaches £71 Million Agreement to Sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford
Manchester United have finalized a deal worth £71 million to acquire Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The Cameroonian forward has been a longstanding target for the club as they seek to strengthen their attacking options this summer.
The negotiations endured some delays despite United’s continued interest throughout the season. The final agreement comprises an initial payment of £65 million, with four subsequent installments and up to £6 million in performance-based bonuses.
Earlier offers were rejected, including a £55 million bid at the start of June and a second offer of £62.5 million, matching the fee they paid Wolverhampton Wanderers for Matheus Cunha. Brentford’s management had previously turned down similar bids.
Mbeumo, who scored 20 Premier League goals last season, had attracted interest from Arsenal, Newcastle United, and Tottenham—where former Brentford boss Thomas Frank now manages. Despite these suitors, Mbeumo prioritized a move to Manchester United, viewing it as his preferred destination.
Having joined Brentford in 2019 from Troyes for £5.8 million, Mbeumo has become an integral part of the team, netting 70 goals in 242 games, including 42 in 136 Premier League matches. His goal-scoring prowess was a key factor in Brentford’s first-ever promotion to the Premier League in 2021.
The 25-year-old’s move will see him join United’s other recent signing, teenage full-back Diego Leon from Cerro Porteño. Although he is yet to undergo a medical, it’s anticipated that Mbeumo will be part of United’s pre-season tour in the US next week.
This signing aims to address United’s recent scoring struggles, as they netted only 44 goals last season in the Premier League—the lowest for a non-relegated team since 1992. Acquiring Mbeumo and Cunha for over £130 million signifies a major investment to bolster their attacking options and compete at a higher level next season.
