Emma Watson Loses Driving Privileges for 6 Months Over Speeding
Emma Watson’s UK Driving Privileges Revoked
Emma Watson, the renowned actress known for her role as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, has reportedly lost her driving license in the UK. The action was taken following a speeding incident that resulted in a fine and penalty points on her license.
Watson was caught speeding at 38 mph in a 30 mph zone in Oxford on July 31, 2024. Prior to this, she already had nine points on her license. The police issued her a fine of £1,044 (approximately $1,400). Subsequently, her driving privileges were suspended for six months, as per UK regulations.
The actress was summoned to appear before High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court this week for a brief hearing but was absent, citing her university responsibilities as the reason for missing the session. Her lawyer indicated that she is capable of paying the fine, despite missing her court date.
Watson has been pursuing her master’s degree at the University of Oxford since 2023, having completed her bachelor’s in English literature at Brown University. Her absence from court has not prevented her from facing penalties; she already faces a six-month driving ban for accumulated points and a speeding offense.
A fellow actor and former co-star also received similar sanctions; 76-year-old Zoe Wanamaker, who played Madame Hooch in Harry Potter, was fined for speeding and missed her court appearance as well.
Watson’s recent legal issues underscore her responsibility as a driver and a student. Despite her busy academic schedule, she is expected to settle her fines and abide by the license suspension. No official comment has been provided by her representatives at this time.
