Hollywood exec’s son who murdered wife and parents dies in jail
Son of Hollywood Executive Commits Suicide Before Court Hearing in Murder Case
The son of a prominent Hollywood producer, who was accused of killing and dismembering his wife and her parents, has died by suicide just hours before a scheduled court appearance.
Samuel Bond Haskell IV was found dead in his jail cell on Saturday morning, officials said. He was due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing related to the murder charges. Law enforcement sources confirmed that his body was discovered prior to his scheduled arraignment.
Haskell’s death appeared to be a suicide, with authorities indicating he took his own life while in custody. The case against him involves the alleged brutal murders of his wife, Mei Li, aged 37, and her parents, Gaoshan Li (72) and Yanxiang Wang (64). He supposedly discarded their remains in a dumpster, and police later found parts of his wife’s body in an Encino trash bin. The remains of her parents have not been recovered.
Last seen alive on November 6, 2023, the victims’ disappearance led to an investigation. The following day, Haskell reportedly hired workers to remove trash bags from his home. One of the laborers reportedly discovered human body parts when opening a bag, prompting calls to authorities. Although the laborers returned the bags and left, the police arrived only to find the bundles missing.
The day after, Haskell was captured on video dumping items in a dumpster. The following day, a torso was found by someone rummaging through trash, leading to Haskell’s arrest. He maintained his innocence and was held without bail as prosecutors prepared the case against him.
