Aussie Soccer Legend Comes Out as Gay, Announces Major Life Change with a Hint of Mystery

Australian Soccer Pioneer’s Major Life Change and Moving to the UK

Josh Cavallo, a prominent player in the A-League, has announced he is relocating to the United Kingdom with his fiancé, although his future in professional football remains uncertain.

At 25, Cavallo gained international recognition in 2021 as the first openly gay male footballer actively competing in a top-tier league. He shared publicly that he no longer wished to hide his sexuality and was tired of living a double life.

In a recent Instagram post, Cavallo expressed excitement about starting a new chapter in England. He mentioned, “It’s not goodbye forever, but now it’s time to leave the nest with my fiancé by my side.” He reflected on his journey, stating, “Football and life have taken me further than I imagined, and new opportunities are guiding us across the world.”

He also shared his feelings on how living authentically has opened new doors, saying, “Living my truth unlocked opportunities and allowed me to be true to myself.” Cavallo emphasized that his journey is meant to inspire others, especially within the LGBTQ+ community, to embrace their identity and find their place.

As a trailblazer, Cavallo was the first professional player to come out while active, following Justin Fashanu’s historic but tragic path in 1990. His openness has received widespread support from fellow athletes and fans alike, including messages from prominent figures.

Having started his career with Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City, Cavallo later joined Western United before moving to Adelaide United in 2021. The club recently announced his departure, calling him a “symbol of courage, authenticity, and positive change.”
