Man United Eyes Free Agent Striker to Strengthen Forward Line Amid Injury Concerns
Manchester United Eyeing Surprising Move for Injured-Free Agent Striker
Manchester United is reportedly considering an unexpected transfer move for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is currently a free agent after leaving Everton at the end of his nine-year tenure with the club.
The striker has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, limiting him to just 19 Premier League appearances last year and scoring three goals. Despite this, United’s manager Ruben Amorim views him as a cost-effective option to bolster the team’s attacking options as they seek to stay within financial regulations.
United has already made high-profile signings this transfer window, including Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5million and young Paraguayan talent Diego Leon for £7 million. The club is also close to securing Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford for over £65million, although Brentford’s valuation remains firm. Tottenham is also interested in the winger, aided by former coach Thomas Frank and Champions League ambitions.
Calvert-Lewin, who is 28 years old and stands 6’2″, previously shined between 2019 and 2021, netting 36 goals across two seasons and earning 11 England caps with four goals. His career has been hampered by injuries, including a hamstring injury that sidelined him for much of last season and a total of 13 injuries since 2020.
Despite concerns over his fitness, United considers him a potential third or fourth choice striker, where less pressure on his body might allow him to perform effectively. The club reportedly offers a lucrative contract based on appearances and goals, aiming to utilize his experience and goal-scoring ability without overloading him.
This move could provide United with additional depth in attack while managing financial constraints and injury concerns. Calvert-Lewin’s experience and goal-scoring talent could prove valuable if he regains full fitness and consistency.
