Bodycam Footage Reveals Fatal Encounter Between Navy Veteran and Police in Texas
A newly released body camera video shows the dramatic and deadly confrontation in early June between a Texas man and police officers responding to a family violence call. Salvador Valdiviezo, 35, a Navy veteran and father of four, was shot and killed during the intense shootout, which appeared to be provoked by Valdiviezo himself.
Officers approached Valdiviezo in the driveway of a residential home, armed and uncooperative. An officer commanded him to raise his hands, but he opened fire. The officers returned fire in a chaotic exchange that lasted approximately 40 seconds and involved around two dozen shots. During the gunfire, Valdiviezo was struck at least twice in the chest and once in the leg.
As the shooting unfolded, the female officer sought cover behind a truck to reload her weapon, after which Valdiviezo circled around the vehicle and shot at her again. The officers repeatedly demanded he get on the ground while firing back. The female officer was hit in the leg but managed to apply a tourniquet to control the bleeding.
Valdiviezo was eventually fatally wounded and transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died. The officers exchanged gunfire during the confrontation, and authorities confirmed his injuries included chest and leg wounds. It remains unclear how many times he was shot in total.
The incident highlights a violent escalation in a domestic disturbance situation, with Valdiviezo’s actions leading to the officers’ use of deadly force. His background includes honorable discharge from the Navy, though details of his military service remain unspecified.
