Hero Dad on Disney Cruise Stops Daughter’s Railing Incident: Investigation Underway

Child Falls Overboard from Disney Cruise, Father Rescues Her

A 5-year-old girl fell into the ocean from a Disney cruise ship off the coast of Florida, but her father quickly jumped in to save her. Witnesses reported that he treaded water for over 10 minutes before rescue teams arrived.

Authorities clarified that the girl was not being held or lifted onto the railing, as some social media reports suggested. A crew member also confirmed that the child had climbed on the railing herself, with a passenger stating that the girl scaled the barrier while her parents were nearby.

The incident occurred on Sunday aboard the Disney Dream, while the ship was sailing between the Bahamas and Fort Lauderdale. The deck where the girl fell is less crowded and features shuffleboard courts. Although the deck is protected by barriers, there are small gaps that can be climbed through, according to a witness.

Cell phone footage shows the moment the girl fell into the water, with her father immediately leaping in after her to rescue her. Crew members responded swiftly, and the child was fortunate to survive the fall.

Passenger Monica Shannon, who was on a lower deck waiting to meet Disney princesses, described seeing something pass by rapidly before learning that someone had fallen overboard. She emphasized the crew’s preparedness, stating that their quick response led to a successful rescue.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office noted that their investigation is ongoing, but there is no suspicion of foul play. They praised the crew’s professionalism, acknowledging that the outcome could have been tragic but was ultimately a fortunate rescue.
