Tr:um:p Threatens GOP: No Vacation Until the Big Beautiful Bill Is Passed!
President Trump Urges Senate Republicans to Fast-Track the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’
President Trump has issued a firm call to Senate Republicans, warning them not to take a vacation until the proposed legislative package, dubbed the One Big Beautiful Bill, is passed. He emphasized the urgency of finalizing the bill by the end of this week to avoid delays caused by upcoming congressional recesses.
Trump urged lawmakers to work intensively, stating, “Work with the House, get it passed immediately, and no one goes on vacation until it’s done.” As he departs for the NATO summit in The Hague, he reiterated the importance of swift action to his allies in the Senate.
The bill, which aims to be Trump’s signature legislative achievement this year, incorporates measures such as enhanced border security, extension of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, no taxes on tips or overtime pay, alongside various spending cuts and conservative priorities.
Following House approval last month, the Senate has introduced several alterations, many of which have drawn criticism from moderate and fiscally conservative members. Notably, amendments from the Senate Finance Committee have removed the controversial state and local tax (SALT) deduction agreement that was part of the House version. Critics warn that these changes could significantly increase deficits and weaken key reforms.
Lawmakers are also debating other modifications, such as easing green-energy subsidy cuts previously imposed under the Biden administration’s Inflation Reduction Act. Some senators, including Republicans Ron Johnson, Rand Paul, Rick Scott, and Josh Hawley, have expressed concerns over the bill’s impact on the deficit, Medicaid reforms, and overall fiscal responsibility.
With a narrow Republican majority in the Senate, the opposition remains cautious, vowing not to support the bill in its current form. GOP leaders, including Senate Majority Leader John Thune and House Speaker Mike Johnson, have kept their members on standby, emphasizing the importance of holding firm until the legislation is enacted.
