FDNY vs. NYPD: Blood-Drive Battle That Could Save Countless Lives – Who Will Win?

FDNY and NYPD Join Forces for City-Wide Blood Drive Competition

In a collaborative effort to support the city’s blood supply, the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) and the NY Police Department (NYPD) are competing in a month-long blood donation drive. The initiative aims to bolster the reserves at the New York Blood Center and ultimately save lives.

At the start of the contest, both departments participated in a pledge to donate blood, emphasizing that the real prize is helping the community. The competition runs from Monday through July 20, with the department that donates the most blood securing a $500 gift card as a reward.

While the rivalry has traditionally been fierce in sports and charity events, both sides agree that this campaign’s focus is on making a positive impact. “We work closely in protecting the public, and this is another way to contribute to public safety,” said FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker.

NYPD Chief of Department John Chell expressed confidence, joking, “We are going to win this competition.” However, he acknowledged the unity both departments share in serving the city, especially during challenging times.

Photos captured the moment of cooperation: FDNY Commissioner Tucker and Chief Chell shaking hands during the inaugural donation event, and a police official handling donated blood. Additionally, an FDNY member was seen donating blood early in the drive, symbolizing the combined effort to strengthen the city’s healthcare resources.

Both agencies highlighted that despite their competitive spirit, their mutual goal is saving lives and supporting the community through this shared mission. Participants are encouraged to donate and help turn this friendly rivalry into a lifesaving success for New York City.
