Conservatives Panicking Over Mamdani’s Surprise Victory—You Won’t Believe Their Reactions!
Controversy Surrounds New York City Mayoral Candidate Zohran Mamdani
Zohran Mamdani would be the first Muslim mayor of New York City if elected. Some opponents are already attacking his religion.
Efforts to celebrate Zohran Mamdani’s primary success in the NYC mayoral race have been met with inflammatory and Islamophobic reactions from right-wing figures. Mamdani, a 33-year-old Democratic Socialist, advocates for policies such as free public transportation, free childcare, and rent freezes. His candidacy has sparked controversy partly because of his Muslim faith and his potential to become New York City’s first Muslim mayor.
Immediately after Mamdani’s primary victory, prominent conservatives launched hostile attacks. Representative Elise Stefanik labeled him “antisemitic, jihadist, Communist”—despite Mamdani not holding Communist beliefs—and criticized New York’s governor for “owning” the “dangerous insanity.”
Conspiracy theorist Laura Loomer, known for her Islamophobic views, made false claims suggesting Mamdani could be linked to terrorism, asserting, “There will be another 9/11 in NYC and Mamdani will be to blame,” falsely claiming he is supported by terrorists. She also implied that the Muslim Brotherhood could have prevented his candidacy and warned of increased jihad in New York.
Charlie Kirk, leader of Turning Point USA, also targeted Mamdani over past advocacy positions, emphasizing the history of Muslim involvement in the 9/11 attacks in a racially charged post.
Responses from Mamdani’s campaign, New York officials, and law enforcement remain unconfirmed regarding these threats and accusations. Meanwhile, GOP candidate Curtis Sliwa described Mamdani as “extreme” and “radical” without mentioning his religion directly.
Mamdani has faced accusations of antisemitism, which he denies, affirming his support for Jewish communities and Israel’s right to exist with equal rights. Earlier, he criticized a super PAC mailer that he claimed was Islamophobic for altering his appearance.
Political insiders warn that Mamdani’s candidacy could become a target for national political attacks, especially with midterm elections approaching, and disdainful rhetoric from Republicans indicates the controversy is unlikely to subside.
