President Trump Criticizes Rep. Thomas Massie Over Iran War Powers Measure
President Donald Trump expressed strong disapproval of Congressman Thomas Massie after the Kentucky Republican co-sponsored a bill aimed at limiting the president’s authority to engage in military actions against Iran. Trump, who has previously clashed with Massie, called him a “pathetic loser” on social media and urged him to prioritize America’s interests.
Trump accused Massie of lacking patriotism, stating, “Massie should abandon his false act and start putting America First, but he has no idea how to do that.” The former president also announced plans to support a Republican primary challenger against Massie, promising to campaign vigorously in Kentucky.
Massie previously opposed the House version of legislation called the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which is viewed as a key legislative initiative for Trump’s agenda. The two have a history of disagreements, notably in 2020 when Massie opposed a $2 trillion COVID-19 relief package.
Recently, Massie teamed up with Democrat Ro Khanna to introduce a War Powers Resolution to restrict Trump’s ability to conduct military strikes against Iran. This move gained traction amid Trump’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, which Massie condemned as unconstitutional.
Trump has maintained that the airstrikes against Iran were vital to prevent theocratic regime from acquiring nuclear weapons, which he believes pose a significant threat. He criticized Massie for what he calls his complacency and lack of action, emphasizing that “MAGA is about strong leadership, not ineffective politicians.”
