Middle School Teacher Arrested for Child Exploitation and Abuse Material

A middle school teacher in Florida has been taken into custody on serious charges involving child pornography and animal abuse images. The teacher, identified as David McKeown, who taught sixth grade at UBIC Academy near Daytona Beach, is accused of downloading and sharing nearly 30 illicit images via social media, some of which may have been generated using AI technology based on photos of his students.

Investigators identified his online activity in less than a month, leading to his arrest. It is alleged that McKeown used the school’s internet to download and distribute the disturbing content while actively engaged in teaching. Some of the images involved real children, including those he taught, which he may have used as base material for AI-generated abuse images, according to prosecutors.

Further troubling claims suggest McKeown interacted with these images during school hours. Authorities state that he also shared personal information of students with pedophiles. The investigation was initiated on June 2 after a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

He faces 19 charges related to child sex abuse and animal cruelty, with the potential for a prison sentence exceeding 300 years if convicted. Following his arrest, McKeown was dismissed from his teaching position.

The school’s administration expressed shock and concern over the allegations, emphasizing their commitment to student safety and the seriousness of the charges.
