Enzo Maresca Fears Training Impossible in Sweltering Philadelphia Heat—Chelsea Struggles Before Vital Match!
Enzo Maresca Highlights Challenges of Training in Extreme Philadelphia Heat Ahead of Chelsea’s Match
Chelsea is preparing to face ES Tunis in an upcoming match in Philadelphia, but intense heat has made training sessions extremely difficult. Enzo Maresca, the team’s manager, described it as “impossible” to conduct proper training due to the scorching temperatures, which are expected to surpass 100°F (37.8°C)—a record high since 1994.
To adapt, Chelsea held a brief open session at Subaru Park, home of the Philadelphia Union, instead of their usual training ground. The team managed light exercises under conditions where temperatures felt even higher, with large fans and shaded areas providing some relief. The heat was recorded at 36°C (96.8°F), feeling like 42°C (107.6°F).
Maresca explained the situation, stating, “We are not really training anymore, just doing very short sessions to conserve energy for the game.” The squad’s captain, Reece James, was unable to participate due to illness, while Levi Colwill, also unwell, managed to train in the humid conditions.
The coach emphasized the reality of training in such conditions, saying, “It’s difficult to work with these temperatures, but we’re here, doing our best, and aiming to win.” He added that their session on Monday was extremely brief and focused on preparation rather than regular training routines.
Despite challenges, Maresca remains committed, noting, “It’s not about making excuses; it’s about facing reality. We’re doing everything we can to be ready for the match and advance to the next stage.”
