Nicolas Jackson’s Shocking Second Red Card in Five Games — His Apology & What Chelsea Teammates Say!

Jordan Jackson Apologizes After Second Red Card in a Month

Nick Jackson, the 24-year-old Chelsea striker, has issued an apology following his second red card within just over a month. The recent incident occurred during Friday’s match against Flamengo in Philadelphia, where Chelsea suffered a 3-1 defeat at the FIFA Club World Cup.

Jackson was sent off only four minutes after coming onto the pitch, for foul play involving Ayrton Lucas. The referee awarded him a straight red card for raking his studs down Lucas’s shin, an act caught on camera. The dismissal marked a tough night for Chelsea, who initially took the lead through Pedro Neto but conceded two quick goals from Bruno Henrique and Danilo before Jackson’s ejection. Flamengo later sealed the victory with a goal from Wallace Yan.

Following the match, Jackson took to Instagram to express his regret, stating, “I want to say sorry. To the club, the staff, my teammates, and fans watching — I let you down.” He admitted to feeling “so angry” with himself and stressed that the mistake was unintentional, describing it as “a football moment gone wrong.” He vowed to reflect, learn, and return stronger for the team.

Teammate Marc Cucurella acknowledged the incident as “bad luck” but emphasized that Jackson needs to show greater maturity. Cucurella also mentioned that Jackson has apologized in the dressing room and remains an important player for Chelsea. However, former midfielder John Obi Mikel criticized Jackson’s challenge as “stupid” and questioned his decision-making, especially at crucial moments in the season.

Jackson’s suspension leaves Chelsea short-handed for their upcoming vital game against ES Tunis, with Liam Delap expected to step in as the replacement. Despite the setback, Chelsea’s qualification hopes in the tournament remain alive, with a draw against Tunis being enough to advance to the knockout stage.
