How a Burger King Worker’s Viral TikTok Sparked a $231K Fundraiser and His Dream College Decision!
High School Graduate Works at Burger King While Wearing Graduation Attire, Sparks Viral Support
An 18-year-old recent graduate from Mills Creek High School in Georgia made headlines after helping out at his job while still dressed in his graduation gown, including medals and a stole, during a busy late-night shift. His act of dedication was captured on video and quickly went viral, receiving over 4.5 million views on TikTok.
Mykale Baker, who aspires to become an auto mechanic and someday open his own shop, was seen assisting colleagues at the Dacula Burger King just miles from where he graduated. The moment was recorded by customer Maria Mendoza, who posted the video online with the caption, “This young boy went straight to work at Burger King right after graduation.”
The overwhelming response led Mendoza to create a GoFundMe campaign to support Baker’s future education and car repairs. The fundraiser exceeded all expectations, raising over $231,600—more than three times the original goal of $60,000.
Baker, who was raised by a single mother alongside nine siblings, initially considered taking a gap year due to financial hardship but decided to proceed with his plans for college after the widespread kindness. He plans to use part of the funds for his car and invest the rest in a trust fund for college.
In recognition of his inspiring act, Baker and Mendoza’s daughter, Daizie, who also recently graduated, each received a $10,000 scholarship from the Burger King Foundation. Daizie will begin studying neuroscience at Georgia State University this fall.
Baker’s sister, Mycah, remarked, “He’s always done these things without many people noticing; it’s just who he is.” The heartwarming story underscores how moments of selflessness can unite families and inspire a community of support.
