Bernie Sanders Stuns NYC with Unexpected Mayor Endorsement—You Won’t Believe Who!
Bernie Sanders Endorses Zohran Mamdani for NYC Mayor
In a historic move, Senator Bernie Sanders publicly backed socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani for New York City’s mayoral race—the first time Sanders has taken a stance in this primary.
Just one week before the June 24 election, Sanders emphasized the need for fresh leadership, stating, “At this pivotal and dangerous moment in American history, status quo politics is not good enough.”
Sanders believes Mamdani offers the leadership necessary to challenge powerful corporate interests. “We need leaders willing to fight for the working class. Zohran Mamdani embodies that vision,” Sanders stated.
The 33-year-old Queens Assemblyman expressed his admiration, calling Sanders “the most influential political figure in my life,” and quickly garnered the endorser’s support, highlighting his commitment to fighting for working-class New Yorkers.
“I will strive to follow his example by fighting for the working class every day and making Brooklyn proud,” Mamdani posted on X.
Following AOC’s backing of Mamdani, Sanders’ support could help narrow the gap between him and frontrunner Andrew Cuomo in the crowded field.
Unlike previous campaigns, Sanders’ endorsement signals a strong progressive push, emphasizing grassroots support and youth engagement in the race.
Despite this, some critics, like The New York Times, have questioned Mamdani’s political savvy, suggesting he lacks the pragmatic instincts that have made Sanders a successful legislator.
With this influential endorsement, Mamdani’s campaign gains a significant boost in the battle for New York City’s mayoralty.
