Miley Cyrus Opens Up About Past Body-Shaming

Despite her fame, Miley Cyrus continues to carry the effects of online bullying. On her appearance on “Reclaiming with Monica Lewinsky,” she discussed the lingering influence of body-shaming memes from her early career.

“In 2013, there were photos with my head on unflattering images,” Cyrus said, referencing her provocative MTV VMA performance with Robin Thicke, which featured a flesh-colored ensemble. “I still see that when I wear a swimsuit today,” the singer added, noting she prefers “very modest” styles.

She recounted a recent trip with friends and her sister, where she chose shorts over bikinis, prompting her sister Brandi to joke, “You’re you, so this is what’s in now. You’re making grandma wear this.”

Though Miley admits to insecurities about her body image, she continues to push boundaries with daring stage looks, today often seen in revealing, cutout attire, as she promotes her latest album, “Something Beautiful.”
