Tom Hanks has commended his daughter E.A. Hanks for her honest new memoir, which reveals her traumatic childhood with her late mother, Samantha Lewes.

“It’s a source of pride because she’s been very transparent about the journey,” Hanks told Access Hollywood during the premiere of “The Phoenician Scheme” last week.

“I’m not at all surprised that my daughter had the insight, curiosity, and perhaps even the recklessness to explore her past honestly.”

“We all come from complex or fractured lives, despite appearances, like her seemingly prestigious job and last name,” the 68-year-old actor remarked.

“She embraces all aspects of her life, and I believe that takes courageous journalistic and literary integrity — qualities I admire in my daughter.”

Hanks also shared that he recognized his daughter’s character when she was just six weeks old by observing her “personality,” “temperament,” and worldview through her “body language.”

Tom Hanks, who stars in “Forrest Gump,” is the father of E.A., 43, and Colin Hanks, 47, from his marriage to Lewes, which lasted from 1978 to 1987.

At the same time, Tom remarried actress Rita Wilson, whom he wed in 1988. “Rita isn’t just a stepmother; she’s like another mother to me,” she told People in April. “When I speak of my parents, I include her — they’ve been together essentially forever.”

Tom and Rita, 68, are parents to Chet, 34, and Truman, 29.
