Victor Wembanyama Cleared to Return to Basketball Activities

Victor Wembanyama Set to Return After Medical Clearance

Victor Wembanyama has received medical clearance to resume playing and is expected to start next season. He had been sidelined after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder following the All-Star Game, which caused him to miss numerous games.

Despite his absence, Wembanyama’s impressive performance last season included averages of 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, and 3.8 blocks per game. Although he missed 36 games, he still led the league in total blocks and earned his first All-Star selection at age 21.

He recently announced that he received approval from the Spurs’ medical team and is eager to return to the court. “I’m officially cleared to return. It just happened — I got the green light from the Spurs’ medical staff just a few hours ago. Phew, I’ll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again!” Wembanyama shared.

Due to this timeline, he will not participate in France’s EuroBasket 2025, which begins next month. However, there is growing optimism among league scouts and front-office officials about Wembanyama’s potential impact on the Spurs’ future. While contenders like Denver and Houston are viewed as strong threats in the West for next season, many speculate that in a few years, San Antonio could emerge as a dominant force with Wembanyama leading a talented core—highlighting the importance of his health and development moving forward.
