LA to NYC High-Speed Train Proposal Before FIFA World Cup

Proposed High-Speed Rail Connects Los Angeles to New York in Under 72 Hours

A new rail project aims to link the two largest U.S. cities swiftly, with a journey time of just three days. Named “The Transcontinental Chief,” the plan was introduced to Amtrak, as well as to high-ranking officials, including President Trump and the Secretary of Transportation.

Unlike traditional large-scale public projects, the proposal suggests utilizing existing infrastructure owned by Amtrak and regional rail networks that pass through major hubs like Kansas City, Chicago, and Philadelphia. This approach aims to minimize costs and streamline development.

A potential high-speed rail route connecting Los Angeles and New York
The plan envisions a rapid train service connecting Los Angeles to New York within 72 hours.

The project would be privately funded, avoiding taxpayer money, and would transport both vehicles and passengers—drawing inspiration from Europe’s freight train models. The goal is to launch operations by May 10, 2026, to coincide with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across North America and culminating in the finals at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.

Officials hope that, pending agreements with host railroads like BNSF, Norfolk Southern, and New Jersey Transit, the train could begin service on National Train Day. Advocates see this as an opportunity for public-private collaboration to revitalize long-distance rail travel and boost regional economies.

While the initiative has been presented to top officials, no response has been received from Amtrak yet. Supporters highlight that this private venture requires no new legislation or federal funding, aiming to revolutionize U.S. intercity travel within a few years.
