Viktor Gyokeres’ Arsenal Move at Risk as Talks with Sporting Lisbon Continue
Potential Transfer of Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal May Collapse
Reports from Portugal suggest that Viktor Gyokeres’s hoped-for move to Arsenal might not happen. While the player remains eager to join the Gunners, Sporting Lisbon appears to be trying to increase the transfer fee.
Sporting is demanding €10 million in bonuses, which Arsenal seems hesitant to agree to on top of the proposed £62.4 million transfer fee. Negotiations are currently facing deadlock, with some sources indicating a real risk that talks could break down entirely.
The deal had advanced to a point where Sporting rejected an initial offer of £60 million and demanded a higher upfront payment plus a larger bonus package. The clubs are now close to an agreement, with a deal valued at around £55 million plus £7.4 million in add-ons, and Gyokeres has agreed to a five-year contract.
Arsenal hopes to finalize the transfer soon so Gyokeres can join their pre-season tour in Asia. Alongside this, the club is progressing in negotiations for Valencia defender Cristhian Mosquera and is close to renewing Ethan Nwaneri’s contract.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are completing a medical for Chelsea’s Noni Madueke, valued at £52 million, and are monitoring Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze as a future target.
Gyokeres, who scored 54 goals last season for Sporting and has an impressive record of 97 goals in 102 appearances since transferring from Coventry in 2023, remains a highly sought-after striker in Europe. His prolific scoring spree highlights his potential value to the Gunners’ attack.
Arsenal has been active this summer, notably acquiring Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi for £60 million, and adding Kepa Arrizabalaga as a backup goalkeeper along with Danish midfielder Christian Norgaard. Their busy transfer window aims to bolster the squad ahead of a push for their first Premier League title in over two decades.
