Disgraced Ex-NJ Senator Bob Menendez Headed to Prison After Bribery Conviction!

Bob Menendez is preparing to serve time behind bars.

The ex-Senator from New Jersey, aged 71, was scheduled to report to a federal prison in Pennsylvania on Tuesday to begin his 11-year sentence for his involvement in a bribery scheme dubbed “Gold Bar Bob.”

He was ordered to surrender at FCI Schuykill, roughly 2.5 hours from his Englewood Cliffs residence, by 2:30 p.m. after his conviction for exchanging favors for gold bars, cash, and other bribes in exchange for influence in the Senate.

Although sentenced in January, Menendez requested to delay incarceration to support his wife, Nadine, who faced similar charges during her trial.

He is also seeking a last-minute pardon or sentence reduction from President Trump. If denied, he will begin his sentence in Pennsylvania.

Menendez is likely to aim for a spot in the prison’s minimum-security camp, which offers more freedom with fewer staff. FCI Schuykill houses over 980 male inmates in total, including those in the camp.

Inside, he can purchase basic items like shampoo ($8.55), toothpaste ($13), and candies ($4.20), and is permitted four visits per month, along with letter and postcard exchanges.

Menendez’s incarceration will make him the most notable inmate at Schuykill, which also houses other infamous residents such as Gurmeet Singh Dhinsa, known as the “Gas Station Gotti” for ordering murders to cover up pump tampering schemes.

He was convicted on July 16, 2024, of accepting bribes and serving as an illegal foreign agent for Egypt and Qatar. Federal investigators found over $480,000 in cash hidden throughout his house, including his jacket, along with 13 gold bars valued at $150,000 stored in a safe.

Judge Sidney Stein told Menendez during sentencing, “You became, I’m sorry to say, a corrupt politician.”

Nadine Menendez, age 58, was also convicted and faces sentencing in September. She was caught up in the bribery scheme, which involved cash, gold, a Mercedes, and payments to a sham consulting firm. She was seen leaving her home with Bob before a trip to a credit union.
