NBA Finals Shock! Thunder Now Has Impossible Odds to Win Their First Title After Game 5 Win!

The chances of the Oklahoma City Thunder securing an additional victory to crown the NBA Finals are extremely slim.

Currently, BetMGM lists the Thunder at -2500 odds to win the Finals after their 120-109 victory over Indiana in Game 5 on Monday night, which gave Oklahoma City a 3-2 series advantage. The game was largely controlled by OKC, though they required a late-game push to stave off Indiana, who had narrowed the gap to two points late in the fourth quarter.

Initially, the Thunder started as heavy favorites with odds at -700 to win the series, making them one of the strongest contenders in recent NBA Finals. However, Indiana claimed Game 1 with a buzzer-beater from Tyrese Haliburton and then took a 2-1 series lead with a decisive win in Game 3.

Oklahoma City has since responded with consecutive wins, giving them their first back-to-back losses for Indiana since March. To clinch the title, the Thunder must win either their next game in Indiana or, if necessary, a Game 7 in Oklahoma City, to secure their first franchise championship.

Meanwhile, Indiana is +1050 to win successive games and the trophy. The Pacers’ long odds are likely worsened by an injury to Haliburton, who tweaked his right leg during Monday’s game. He appeared to suffer a calf injury, which required his leg to be wrapped as he sat on the bench, and affected his performance, as he scored no field goals and only four free throws.

Following Monday’s win, the Thunder are favored by 4.5 points in Game 6, with a moneyline of -190. If you believe Indiana can push the series to a decisive Game 7, they have +155 odds for that scenario.

The race for Finals MVP seems almost settled if Oklahoma City wins the series—NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is at -600, with teammate Jalen Williams at +625. Williams scored 40 points in Game 5, contributing heavily alongside Gilgeous-Alexander, who accounted for over half of the team’s 120 points. For Indiana, Pascal Siakam is the top candidate at +1500, followed by Haliburton at +4000.
