Fred VanVleet Named New NBPA President, Replacing CJ McCollum

Fred VanVleet Elected as New President of the NBPA

Fred VanVleet, a guard for the Houston Rockets, has been elected as the new president of the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA). The decision was made during a meeting of player representatives, and he will serve a four-year term as the organization’s leader.

VanVleet succeeds CJ McCollum, whose term has concluded. McCollum is set to shift into an advisory role. During his tenure, McCollum led the NBPA for four years and previously served as an executive vice president.

Drafted out of Wichita State in 2016, VanVleet initially played for Raptors 905, leading them to a G League championship in 2017. He quickly established himself with the Toronto Raptors, spending seven seasons with the team and helping secure their first NBA championship in 2019.

Known for signing the most lucrative contract ever for an undrafted player, VanVleet spent the last two seasons with the Rockets. Last month, he signed a two-year, $50 million deal to stay with Houston. The 31-year-old averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game, playing a key role in helping the Rockets secure the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.
