Born on September 25, 1957, in Chicago, Madson was the son of Elaine Melson, an Emmy-winning filmmaker and author, and Calvin Christian Madson, a Navy veteran and firefighter. His heritage included Danish, Irish, and Native American roots. He had two sisters—actress Virginia Madson and entrepreneur Cheryl Madson.

Madson began his acting journey at the Steenwill Theater in Chicago, apprenticing under John Malkovich. His breakthrough came with Quentin Tarantino’s 1992 film Reservoir Dogs, where he delivered a memorable performance as Mr. Blonde. He remained a frequent collaborator with Tarantino, appearing in Kill Bill series, The Hateful Eight, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

His career spanned numerous notable movies, including War Games, The Natural, Thelma & Louise, Donnie Brasco, and Die Another Day. Beyond acting, Madson was an accomplished author, publishing six collections of poetry.
