NYPD Detective Punched Attempting to Stop Food-Throwing Man at Starbucks
NYPD Detective Attacked While Intervening at Midtown Starbucks
An off-duty NYPD detective was assaulted while attempting to prevent a man from causing chaos at a Midtown Starbucks early Friday morning. The 39-year-old officer approached the individual, who was throwing food around the establishment located at Sixth Avenue and West 57th Street around 7:45 a.m.
As the detective tried to de-escalate the situation, the man struck her in the head, resulting in a minor injury for which she received treatment at the scene. Authorities have identified a person of interest in connection with the incident and detained him for questioning, though no charges had been filed by the evening.
This incident follows recent violent episodes involving individuals interfering with store employees. Just days prior, a man in the Bronx bit a worker attempting to stop him from shoplifting, then slashed another employee during a subsequent heist. Additionally, last month, a suspect attempting to steal a can of soda stabbed a security guard at a Duane Reade near East 52nd Street.
