DOJ Subpoenas 20+ Clinics Over Child Mutilation in Transgender Procedures
Federal Investigation Targets Providers of Transgender Medical Procedures for Minors
The Department of Justice has issued subpoenas to over 20 medical professionals and clinics across the country involved in performing gender-affirming treatments on minors. Although the identities of the investigated providers remain confidential, the move signals increased federal scrutiny of transgender healthcare for youths.
Attorney General Pam Bondi stated that those involved in “mutilating children in the service of a warped ideology will be held accountable.” The DOJ’s actions follow government efforts to restrict access to transition-related care for minors, including attempts to ban such treatments nationally.
Authorities are also seeking access to protected patient data to assess whether healthcare providers are complying with laws and to guide policy discussions regarding gender-affirming treatments. This investigation comes three months after warnings from Bondi about investigating clinics performing procedures on minors under allegations of female genital mutilation.
While no charges have yet been filed, law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, have encouraged the public to report any hospitals or doctors performing surgeries on minors. The Supreme Court recently upheld a state ban on transgender puberty blockers and hormone therapies for children, ruling in favor of Tennessee’s restrictions.
The ongoing federal actions highlight the heated debate over transgender healthcare for minors, amid broader legal and political battles on the issue. Despite state-level restrictions adopted by many states, there are currently no overarching federal laws limiting access to such treatments. Public opinions and court rulings continue to shape the landscape of transgender rights and healthcare policies.
