NY Dem Tom Suozzi Rejects Trump’s “Big, Beautiful” Bill, But Agrees with 75% of It

Congressman Opposes Mega Bill While Supporting Key Provisions

Representative Tom Suozzi, representing parts of Long Island and Queens, explained his decision to vote against the comprehensive “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” despite agreeing with approximately 75% of its content. He cited concerns over its most damaging aspects, such as tax hikes and deficit impacts.

During an interview, Suozzi expressed support for increased border security investments and tax relief for low- and middle-income families but criticized certain provisions. He questioned why, during a strong economy, there should be tax cuts for the wealthy that significantly increase the deficit.

The bill, which President Trump signed into law recently, extends the 2017 tax cuts, boosts energy production, enhances border security, and includes defense modernization and spending cuts. It narrowly cleared the House of Representatives amid Republican support.

Suozzi also voiced concerns about recent political shifts, highlighting the surprising victory of socialist Zohran Mamdani in the NYC Democratic mayoral primary. He clarified his stance, stating, “I am a Democratic capitalist, not a socialist,” noting that Mamdani’s win reflects broader economic dissatisfaction among voters. He emphasized the need for Democrats to focus more on affordability issues, rather than solely social rights, to better address voters’ concerns.
