Exclusive: ‘America’s Next Top Model’ Contestant Reveals ‘Meanest’ Judge
Former “America’s Next Top Model” Contestant Reveals Off-Camera Criticism from Judge Twiggy
Sarah Hartshorne, a participant on Cycle 9 of “America’s Next Top Model,” has opened up about her experiences with judge Twiggy off-camera. Hartshorne described Twiggy as the “meanest” judge she encountered, sharing that the model-turned-judge often made hurtful remarks during her time on the show.
Hartshorne recounted that Twiggy, whose real name is Dame Lesley Lawson, once told her she looked like a “ham” and suggested she was “actually not very attractive” in person. Hartshorne said, “If I were called a ham today, I would respond, ‘Thank you so much. Absolutely accurate.’”
She detailed some of Twiggy’s comments, including critiques like, “I’m surprised this is such a good photo because in person you’re not very attractive,” and that she looked “rather like a ham” in certain outfits. Hartshorne attributed much of Twiggy’s candor to her extensive modeling career during a tough era, suggesting it may have shaped her bluntness.
Despite her harsh comments, Hartshorne acknowledged Twiggy’s long-standing career in modeling, which she believes contributed to her off-camera attitude. She also noted that Twiggy’s body had been scrutinized for so long that she might not fully register her own remarks’ impact.
Now a comedian, writer, and content creator, Hartshorne reflected humorously on her experience, saying she would have simply accepted any negative nickname if it were to happen today. She also shared that she had worked as a model for brands like Skechers and appeared in prominent magazines such as Glamour and Vogue.
Hartshorne discussed her difficult experiences on the show in a November 2024 interview on the “Dark Side of Reality TV,” giving fans insight into the challenges behind the glamorous facade of the modeling competition.
