Chiefs Owner’s Family Loses 9-Year-Old Girl in Texas Floods

Tragic Loss of a Young Girl in Texas Floods

The family of Chiefs owner Clark Hunt experienced a heartbreaking tragedy as devastating flooding in Texas claimed lives over the weekend. Among the victims was nine-year-old Janie Hunt, a young cousin of Clark Hunt, who died during an incident at Camp Mystic.

Janie was participating in her first visit to this all-girls camp when tragedy struck. She was one of five girls confirmed dead at the scene, with at least 11 others still missing. The flooding occurred after heavy rains in the Texas Hill Country caused the Guadalupe River to overflow, leading to severe flood damage across the region, including at Camp Mystic.

An aerial map reveals the extent of the flood’s impact, showing the layout of the camp’s cabins relative to the river, highlighting the hazardous conditions that contributed to the crisis.

Janie’s family expressed their grief publicly. Clark Hunt’s wife, Tavia Hunt, shared emotional reflections on social media, questioning how to reconcile such terrible events with their faith. She wrote, “How do we trust a God who is supposed to be good, all knowing and all powerful, but who allows such terrible things to happen — even to children?”

Janie was the great-granddaughter of the late billionaire William Herbert Hunt, brother of Lamar Hunt, founder of the Chiefs. Tragedy has deepened as the death toll in the region has risen to 82, following intense rains and flooding that submerged parts of the Texas Hill Country and the Guadalupe River.

In moments of despair, some find solace in faith. Tavia Hunt emphasized that even in grief, they find comfort in the belief that “God is near,” offering hope and restoration to those struggling with loss.
