NYC Vigilantes Catch Attacker on Subway Platform: Street Justice Served

Vigilantes intervene in subway assault, suspect released in court

A viral video captures a dramatic incident on a Brooklyn subway platform involving a young woman and a man who allegedly followed her and initiated a threatening confrontation. The footage shows the man, Fredrick Marshall, 42, a complete stranger, following and arguing with the woman after boarding the Manhattan-bound J train at Norwood Avenue in Cypress Hills around 9 a.m. on Sunday.

In the video, Marshall, dressed entirely in white, is seen grabbing and attempting to bear-hug the woman as she tries to escape. Her screams for help drew the attention of several bystanders on the platform. One yelled, “Let her go!” but Marshall persisted, shoving her to the ground and holding her in a bear-hug as she struggled to break free. The onlookers responded quickly, pulling her away and confronting Marshall physically, with one man shouting, “I’m gonna f–k you up!”

The victim was visibly shaken and later seen crying while on her phone, speaking with her mother. She was treated on-site by emergency medical services for shoulder pain and minor injuries to her arms and stomach.

Police arrived to find Marshall having an altercation with the woman at the scene. He was promptly arrested and found to be carrying a knife and blackjack. Marshall faces multiple charges, including third-degree assault, criminal possession of a weapon, attempted assault, and harassment. Despite the severity of the incident, he was released the following day on supervised conditions because the charges do not qualify for bail, according to the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office. Cops report no prior arrests for Marshall.
