First Lady Melania Trump Visits Children’s Hospital for Independence Day Bastion

In Washington, D.C., Melania Trump spent Wednesday engaging with young patients at Children’s National Hospital. During her visit, she brought teddy bears and other gifts, conversing with the children about their favorite music artists and upcoming Independence Day celebrations.

“Everyone gets a teddy bear — and more,” she told the group of ten children, aged across inpatient and outpatient wards. She asked if they knew what holiday was coming, to which many responded excitedly, “Independence Day!”

“It’s a very special day,” Melania Trump told the children. “We’ll have a big party at the White House… maybe next year, when you’re feeling better, you can come over and celebrate with us.”

She also discussed the children’s favorite foods, sports, and musical artists while they decorated rocks and placed American flags in planters in the hospital’s Bunny Mellon Healing Garden, a memorial established in 2017. One young patient mentioned Taylor Swift as her favorite singer, prompting Mrs. Trump to praise her talent diplomatically, despite recent comments from the President about her.

The first lady presented the hospital with a yellow tea rose called “Eternal Flame,” known for its citrus scent.

Asked about her hobbies, Melania admitted she doesn’t play golf, but mentioned her husband often enjoys weekends at his private clubs in Florida and New Jersey. Together with hospital leader Michelle Riley-Brown, she helped plant Fourth of July-themed wind spinners and patriotic bows in the garden beds.

Later, she visited a three-month-old patient in the Transplant Unit and met children with heart and kidney conditions.

She also interacted with patients in various units, showing kindness and support. Inside the hospital’s memorial wall is a photo of her with Jill Biden and a memorable Christmas visit in 2024, highlighting her longstanding connection to the hospital’s gardens and children’s health initiatives.
