Man United sign £7m South American wonderkid, 18, as Amorim’s second summer recruit

Manchester United Sign £7 Million South American Talent, 18, as Second Summer Addition

Manchester United has officially secured the services of Paraguayan teenager Diego Leon, ahead of the upcoming pre-season preparations. The club agreed to a deal worth up to £7 million to bring the 18-year-old defender from Cerro Porteño.

This acquisition marks United’s second summer signing following the transfer of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £62.5 million last month. Leon is eager to prove himself, but his future within the team will depend on pre-season performances, with coach Ruben Amorim and his staff evaluating whether to include him in the first-team squad or loan him out for further development.

United outbid notable rivals like Arsenal and Manchester City for Leon, who first caught attention from Premier League clubs at the end of last year. He is expected to fill a potential void at left-back, especially with Tyrell Malacia’s expected departure.

While some players, including Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, are currently sidelined during pre-season, Leon expressed confidence in his ability to quickly adapt. He dismissed the idea of going out on loan, stating, “Everyone thinks I’ll go out on loan, but I don’t have that mindset. I’m going to excel in pre-season, and I believe I can be playing with the first team within one or two games.”

Leon is determined to make an immediate impact and show his talent at Old Trafford, aiming to earn his place in the squad without delay.
