Elon Musk Teases ‘America Party’ After Big, Beautiful Bill Act Backlash
Elon Musk Considers Launching the “America Party”
Elon Musk, the billionaire tech entrepreneur, has publicly discussed the possibility of establishing a new political party, dubbed the “America Party,” aimed at shifting the balance of power in Washington after the upcoming midterm elections.
On Independence Day, Musk questioned his followers about forming a third party, polling more than 62% in favor of creating the “America Party.” He suggested that focusing on a handful of Senate seats and House districts could influence legislation, especially given the narrow margins in Congress.
Musk has recently voiced criticism of legislative measures, including the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” which he condemned as irresponsible for increasing the national debt. He argued that supporting only select legislative battles could help ensure laws truly reflect the will of the people, especially when legislative majorities are slim.
Shift in Political Stance
Last month, Musk sharply criticized former President Trump and his second-term policies, calling some of Trump’s legislation “pork-filled” and a “disgusting abomination” mainly because of its impact on the deficit, which is projected to grow by approximately $3.9 trillion over ten years.
Given his history as a supporter of the Trump administration, including backing the Department of Government Efficiency initiative, Musk’s recent opposition has attracted significant attention. He has also criticized the recent legislative efforts as benefits to industries of the past at the expense of future growth, particularly concerning green energy tax credits, which Tesla heavily depends on.
Political Dynamics and Support
Musk has supported specific Republican legislators, such as Sen. Rand Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie, especially on issues of deficit concerns. Despite some GOP efforts to primary opponents like Massie, Musk has indicated he plans to support his re-election in 2026. With an estimated net worth of over $400 billion, Musk’s influence could be substantial.
Current Political Landscape
The Senate is controlled by Republicans with a 53-47 majority, while the House has a narrow GOP majority of 220-212. Musk’s proposed third-party effort could alter the existing political balance, especially if it gains traction among voters disillusioned with the current two-party system.
