Joao Pedro’s Move to Chelsea Sets New Record Sale for Watford

Watford has secured a lucrative sale of Joao Pedro to Chelsea, boosted by a hidden sell-on clause that will see the Brazilian midfielder surpass the club’s previous highest sale, Richarlison.

The transfer, finalized in 2023, reportedly involved a fee of between £30 million and £35 million. Chelsea are paying an initial £55 million, which could rise to £60 million, with Watford set to receive 20% of Brighton’s profit from the deal. Since Brighton acquired Pedro, Watford stands to earn an estimated £5 million from this arrangement.

According to insiders, this amount will push Watford’s earnings from Pedro’s sale above what they earned from Richarlison’s move to Everton in 2018.

Joao Pedro has already trained with Chelsea’s squad in Miami and is preparing to face Palmeiras in the Club World Cup quarter-finals next Friday.
