U.S. Stops Military Shipments to Ukraine Due to Stockpile Concerns

The Biden administration has paused the delivery of certain military equipment to Ukraine, citing dwindling U.S. stockpiles as the reason. The shipment includes 155mm artillery shells, Patriot air defense systems, Guided Multi-Launch Rocket Systems, Stinger missiles, AIM-7, and Hellfire missiles.

Officials confirmed that these weapons will not be sent, following a Pentagon review aimed at safeguarding U.S. military reserves. A White House spokesperson emphasized that the decision prioritizes American interests and underscored the strength of U.S. armed forces, stating, “The strength of the United States Armed Forces remains unquestioned — just ask Iran.”

According to reports, the decision was made in early June by Under Secretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby, who reviewed the Department of Defense’s decreasing missile and munition stockpiles. The halted weapons include missiles used both on the ground and in the air, notably by F-16 fighter jets, to counter Russian drone attacks that threaten civilians.

Colby clarified that the U.S. still offers alternative military support options, with the goal of ending the conflict in Ukraine while maintaining American military readiness. He also highlighted that U.S. armed forces are “the envy of the world and only growing stronger.”

Despite concerns over his cautious stance on aid to Ukraine, Colby was confirmed by the Senate in April. Previously, he advocated for reducing aid shipments to prioritize threats from China.

This development comes shortly after Ukraine reported a significant Russian aerial assault, involving 537 weapons including drones and missiles, with nearly half of the drones being neutralized or jammed by Ukrainian defenses.

Additionally, President Trump indicated at a NATO summit that Ukraine has requested “anti-missile missiles” from the U.S. and hinted at the possibility of providing some, though he cautioned about the difficulty in sourcing such advanced weaponry.
