Aston Villa to Sell Women’s Team for £60M to Skirt Financial Rules—Shocking Move Before Deadline!
Aston Villa Ready to Sell Women’s Team for £60 Million to Meet Financial Rules
Aston Villa is nearing an agreement to sell its women’s team to a sister company, a move aimed at ensuring compliance with Premier League financial regulations for the upcoming season.
With the 2024-25 financial year ending on June 30, Villa needed to make a substantial transaction to adhere to profitability and sustainability rules. Instead of selling a primary player, the club is close to finalizing the sale of their women’s team, which could generate between £50-60 million.
This approach mirrors a strategy employed by Chelsea earlier this year when they sold their women’s team and hotel assets for over £250 million, taking advantage of similar rules allowing asset transfers within affiliated entities. Previously, Villa avoided a potential 10-point penalty for breaching profitability rules by selling Douglas Luiz to Juventus.
It is believed that this sale will help Villa comply with league regulations for the current season. Additionally, the club is in talks to terminate the contract of Philippe Coutinho, who has not played since August 2023 and earns approximately £120,000 weekly. From Tuesday, Villa will also cease paying last season’s loaned players, Marcus Rashford, Axel Disasi, and Marco Asensio.
Further transfers are anticipated, as manager Unai Emery aims to strengthen the squad. Emi Martinez is open to new opportunities but has not received confirmed offers from other Premier League teams and is hesitant about moving to the Saudi Pro League. Villa may also consider offers for players like Leon Bailey and Jacob Ramsey.
