Mary Fowler’s Shocking Confession: Nearly Quit Soccer Forever!

Mary Fowler Opens Up About Nearly Quitting Soccer

  • Currently recovering from a serious knee injury
  • Racing against time to be fit for the upcoming Asian Cup

Mary Fowler, the talented Matildas and Manchester City star, has revealed she once came very close to walking away from football. The 22-year-old midfielder shared that early career pressures made her fall out of love with the sport.

Fowler debuted for Australia at just 15 and acknowledged that if she hadn’t experienced success early, she might have chosen a different path. “Football wasn’t always enjoyable because I was so absorbed in it. Small mistakes, like missing a shot, felt devastating,” she said. “If I hadn’t reached the national team so early, I might have quit.”

Mary Fowler has credited her early success for keeping her engaged in football.

Currently sidelined with an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, Fowler is undergoing recovery in England. She described her mental approach to healing, emphasizing positivity: “I see my knee as an upgrade, not a problem,” she explained. “Most players take up to a year to return to normal, but I believe mental strength is key, so I’ve been working on that.”

Fowler's future plans

She envisions a future with a large family, possibly on a rural property, filled with animals and outdoor space.

Looking ahead, Fowler shared her desire for a big family, expressing her hope to become a mother and adopt siblings in the future. Despite being far from Australia and unlikely to return soon, she is already dreaming of a peaceful life filled with children, animals, and outdoor adventures.
