Former Premier League Star’s S:HO:CK Move to Manage Non-League Club After Heartbreaking Promotion Loss!
Former Premier League Star Emerges as Unexpected Candidate for Non-League Managerial Role
Robbie Savage, a former Premier League player, has reportedly become a surprising contender to manage National League club Forest Green Rovers. The current manager, Steve Cotterill, is expected to leave the club after nearly 18 months at the helm, during which the team narrowly missed promotion to League Two last season.
Coveted for his experience, Savage is now linked with the vacant position at Forest Green, a club that finished third in the National League but fell short in the playoff semifinals. The club’s owner, Dale Vince, has recently appointed a new director of football, Mark Bowen, signaling ongoing changes at the club.
Previously serving as Macclesfield FC’s director of football, Savage took over as manager last June and led the club to their third promotion in four years with a dominant season in the Non-League Premier. He recently signed a new two-year contract, emphasizing his commitment to the club’s growth.
Savage expressed his dedication, stating, “It’s a club that’s close to my heart. We’ve achieved a lot — three promotions, an FA Trophy semi-final, and a record-breaking season. I want to continue this journey.”
Meanwhile, reports suggest Savage has recently met with Mark Bowen, hinting at negotiations regarding the Forest Green managerial role. The club’s current boss, Cotterill, has guided the team to an impressive record last season but is expected to depart amidst strategic changes by the ownership.
