Iran Responds to U.S. Airstrikes with Threats and Counterattacks
Iran has condemned recent U.S. airstrikes on its nuclear sites, accusing President Trump of recklessness and warning that Tehran will be the ones to bring an end to the conflict. A military spokesman labeled Trump a “gambler” and asserted, “You may start this war, but we will be the ones to finish it.”
The strikes came amid ongoing hostilities between Iran and Israel, with both nations exchanging air attacks. The international community fears escalating violence following the U.S. attack on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure over the weekend, which Trump hinted could trigger leadership changes in Tehran.
In a social media post, former President Trump questioned why Iran’s current government should remain in power, suggesting that if Iran cannot make the country “Great Again,” regime change might be necessary. However, his administration emphasized that the missile strikes aimed solely to disable Iran’s nuclear program, not to overthrow its leadership.
Military officials confirmed that the U.S. launched approximately 75 precision-guided munitions, including bunker-busters and Tomahawk missiles, targeting three Iranian nuclear facilities. Satellite imagery analysis suggested significant damage, especially to the underground Fordow plant.
Iran responded with missile launches towards Israel, causing injuries and property damage in Tel Aviv. Israel reported striking military targets in western Iran overnight, including missile and radar infrastructure in Kermanshah and a missile launcher in Tehran.
Despite the military actions, U.S. officials maintained that diplomatic efforts are ongoing, and that the U.S. is not at war with Iran, only its nuclear program. However, Trump has warned of additional attacks if Tehran retaliates against U.S. forces.
