RFK Jr. Slams Offshore Wind Farms: Threatening Marine Life & Whales for No Money!

RFK Jr. Opposes Offshore Wind Farms Over Marine Life Concerns

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., serving as the Secretary of Health & Human Services, reaffirmed his stance against offshore wind turbines, citing their detrimental impact on whales and marine ecosystems. He highlighted a recent surge in whale strandings, with 109 incidents over the past 22 months, all occurring near these wind farms.

He pointed out that, historically, whale groundings averaged just 2.6 annually before the new offshore developments. Many of these species are critically endangered, raising fears of potential extinction. Kennedy argued that offshore wind farms disrupt marine life, with fish populations like cod and groundfish disappearing when turbines are installed. This, he said, jeopardizes local fishing industries and livelihoods.

Kennedy also criticized the financial viability of these projects. He emphasized that many US offshore wind companies are foreign-owned and often partner with American firms to access substantial subsidies under the current government’s policies. He claimed offshore wind energy costs are triple those of onshore wind and lack economic justification.

Despite being opposed by Kennedy, a controversial project at Long Island’s coast, known as Empire Wind 1, was approved to move forward, promising about 1,000 local jobs as part of New York’s goal to eliminate fossil fuels by 2050. Critics, including Nassau County officials, argue that it endangers marine life and the fishing industry.

Kennedy revealed ongoing communication with former President Trump about his opposition to offshore wind projects, aligning with Trump’s own critical stance. Trump has publicly condemned wind turbines, citing their environmental damage and hazards to birds and whales.

On the conservation front, Kennedy has been active in efforts to protect ostriches threatened by avian flu in Canada. He has urged Canadian officials to spare the birds at the Universal Ostrich Farm, advocating for studying the surviving ostriches’ immunity to bird flu, which could provide valuable insights. Some notable figures, including TV doctor Dr. Oz, have offered to shelter the ostriches at his Florida ranch.
