Virginia Woman Arrested in Hamptons Hit-and-Run Fatality

A woman from Virginia has been taken into custody following a fatal hit-and-run incident involving a prominent Hampton Bays real estate agent, Sara Burack. The incident occurred when Burack, 40, was walking along Montauk Highway carrying a pink suitcase and was struck by a vehicle.

Marine biologist Amanda Kempton, 32, was who behind the wheel, reportedly believing she had hit a traffic cone due to foggy conditions. Her lawyer stated Kempton did not see Burack and left the scene after the accident, later discovering Burack’s large suitcase lodged underneath her vehicle.

Authorities tracked Kempton’s vehicle using license plate data and found it with front-end damage at her family’s home. Kempton, who has a background in microbiology and marine biology, previously worked at a museum on the East End and is currently employed at Camp Jekyll in Georgia.

During her court appearance, Kempton appeared tearful and pleaded not guilty. Her family posted $100,000 bail to secure her release. Prosecutors argued that she posed a flight risk because she had been scheduled to return to Virginia for a wedding, and she had previously fled the scene of the accident.

The Victim

Sara Burack was a renowned real estate agent specializing in luxury properties and starred in the Netflix series “Million Dollar Beach House.” She was walking on the side of the road, pulling a pink suitcase, when she was struck on a foggy morning.

Her family remained silent during her court appearance, and Kempton herself wore a bright orange sweatshirt and black slacks. She once worked at a museum in Bridgehampton and grew up in Virginia, with degrees from George Mason University and Nova Southeastern University.
