President Trump Criticizes Rep. Thomas Massie Over Iran War Powers Bill

President Trump publicly attacked Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie after Massie co-introduced legislation aimed at limiting presidential war authority. Trump labeled Massie a “pathetic loser” on social media and announced plans to support a primary challenger in Kentucky, criticizing his stance on foreign policy.

Trump, who has been vocally opposed to Iran’s nuclear ambitions, accused Massie of being ineffective and not putting America first. He asserted, “MAGA should drop this pathetic LOSER, Tom Massie,” and vowed to campaign strongly against him in the upcoming Republican primary.

The conflict stems from Massie’s opposition to recent military strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, including Natanz, Isfahan, and Fordow. He condemned the action as unconstitutional and co-sponsored a War Powers Resolution with Rep. Ro Khanna to restrict Trump’s ability to engage in military actions against Iran without congressional approval.

President Trump had warned Iran that he would respond decisively to its nuclear program.

Trump insists the military actions against Iran were necessary, emphasizing his stance that Iran’s regime must not acquire nuclear weapons. He characterized Massie as someone who talks tough but opposes crucial legislation.

In recent weeks, Massie opposed the House version of the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill Act,’ a major legislative effort backed by Trump. In 2020, he also opposed a $2 trillion COVID-19 relief package, which drew Trump’s criticism at the time. Till recently, Massie teamed with Democratic Rep. Khanna to push back against executive military authority, advocating for congressional oversight.

Operation Midnight Hammer targeted Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

Trump remains firm that Iran’s nuclear program must be stopped, and has argued that his military strikes were justified. He criticized Massie for opposing these efforts, stating, “He’s a simple minded ‘grandstander’ who thinks it’s good politics for Iran to have nuclear weapons while they shout ‘Death to America’ and have harmed thousands of Americans.”

Meanwhile, Massie’s office has yet to respond to the president’s remarks.
