Exclusive: Wild NYPD Car Chase Through NYC in Viral Video

Police Chase and Apprehend Suspected Car Thieves in the Bronx

A dramatic police pursuit in the Bronx ended with the arrest of two men suspected of stealing a bright blue Dodge Charger, captured on body camera footage resembling a high-speed movie scene. The chase began after a license plate reader detected the vehicle around 11 a.m. on September 17 at East 167th Street and Morris Avenue. A police drone tracked the car as it sped through Claremont Village, with officers following closely behind.

The vehicle attempted to evade authorities by driving onto sidewalks and off-road areas along East 167th Street. The pursuit halted about a mile later when the driver collided with the side of an SUV stopped at a red light at Walton Avenue. Officers shouted commands, prompting both suspects to exit the vehicle and run away on foot. Officers quickly gave chase, leading to the detention of the men in separate incidents.

One suspect was found in possession of a handgun when officers rolled him onto his back. A search revealed the firearm under his body, and officers secured it amid shouted commands.

Footage shows a second suspect, wearing black and red clothing, being subdued on the ground by police. Both men were identified as Emmanuel Torres, 26, from Newark, NJ, and Ricky Fernandez, 25, from Linden, NJ. Torres faces charges including gun possession and criminal possession of stolen property, while Fernandez is charged with auto theft, stolen property possession, drug possession, and reckless driving. Police reported Fernandez was holding crack cocaine during his arrest.

Both suspects pleaded not guilty in court. Fernandez was released on his own recognizance, and Torres was released with non-monetary conditions, pending further legal proceedings.
