Barcelona’s Sporting Director Provides Update on Key Players’ Future

Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has shared insights regarding the future of three of the club’s prominent players amid transfer speculation. The players are reportedly being considered for moves during the current transfer window.

Deco acknowledged that one player might leave the club, but emphasized his desire to retain the other two. The club has already strengthened their squad this summer with the signing of goalkeeper Joan Garcia from Espanyol. Departures include Clement Lenglet, who parted ways to join Atlético Madrid after mutual contract termination, and young talent Alex Valle, who transferred to Como.

Looking ahead, Barcelona aims to build on their successes from last season, where they won both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Deco provided an update on the club’s notable players’ futures.

One of the key players, Frenkie de Jong, has just one year remaining on his contract and has been linked with Manchester United. Deco is eager to keep the midfielder, who featured in 46 matches last season. He stated, “The Frenkie we had this season is the Frenkie we want. We want to continue with Frenkie, he has one more year on his contract, and we will review the situation calmly.”

Defender Ronald Araujo, despite suffering injuries last season, remains highly valued by Deco, who is committed to keeping him at the club. Deco said, “Ronald has a contract, has renewed, and wants to return to his best form. Leaving is not in his plans.”

However, winger Ansu Fati may be loaned out this summer to gain regular playing time, with Monaco as a potential destination. Deco explained, “Ansu needs to play, and we are open to a loan move if he wishes. Monaco has approached us, and if they request him, it would be a loan. He’s 23, still young, and has much to develop.”
