SpaceX Launches 24 Amazon Project Kuiper Satellites Today

Upcoming Launch of Amazon’s Project Kuiper Satellites

Amazon is continuing to expand its broadband satellite network, known as Project Kuiper. Today, a launch is planned for 24 new satellites, which will be launched from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket at approximately 9:34 p.m. EDT.

This marks SpaceX’s third launch dedicated to deploying Project Kuiper satellites and the sixth overall, bringing the total number of satellites in the constellation to about 129. Once fully operational, the network aims to consist of around 3,200 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). These initial satellites will be deployed at an altitude of 289 miles, with subsequent adjustments to reach approximately 392 miles for full functionality.

The deployment process involves the Falcon 9’s upper stage releasing the satellites over a 7.5-minute period shortly after launch. Following deployment, initial health checks will be performed, and the satellites will be raised to their final orbit to join the existing constellation.

Viewers can watch the launch live through SpaceX’s streaming service, beginning about 15 minutes prior to liftoff.

In addition to this mission, the Falcon 9’s first stage will perform a controlled landing on the droneship “Just Read the Instructions” in the Atlantic Ocean, marking its second flight and recovery. This booster previously launched on August 11 during another Project Kuiper deployment, which was SpaceX’s 100th mission of 2025.

Project Kuiper is part of a broader effort in LEO broadband networks, including SpaceX’s Starlink, which has over 8,500 satellites in orbit, and China’s upcoming Guowang and Qianfan constellations, each designed to host around 13,000 satellites.
