Tony Evans Returns to Ministry After Resigning Over Mysterious Sin

Pastor Tony Evans Returns to Ministry After Moral Failure

The founder of a prominent Texas megachurch has been reinstated to his pastoral duties following a period of separation due to a moral lapse, the details of which remain private. Evans described his time away as an “extremely challenging period” and credited his journey of repentance and restoration.

At a recent service, Evans, 75, was met with a standing ovation when he reappeared on stage after stepping down last year. He acknowledged that he fell short of biblical standards and needed to go through a process of repentance to achieve healing, emphasizing that God is a God of restoration.

Evans was greeted with applause upon returning to his church leadership role.

Though he has been welcomed back emotionally by his congregation, Evans is not expected to resume a leadership position. Instead, his son, Jonathan Evans, will serve as the new lead pastor. Tony Evans clarified that he committed no legal crimes but recognized his actions lacked wise judgment.

Founded in 1976, Evans’ church, Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship, began as a small Bible study and has expanded to more than 10,000 members with numerous ministries. Besides his pastoral work, Evans is a bestselling author and hosts the global radio program “The Alternative,” broadcast in over 130 countries.
