Florida Man Charged with Double Homicide After Victim Films Shooting
A man from Florida has been charged with two counts of murder following the killing of two individuals whose confrontation was captured on cellphone video. The incident occurred in Tampa, where the victims were found hanging out of a white pickup truck.
Louis Jules, 59, was arrested less than eight hours after investigators recovered video footage from one of the victims’ phones. The video showed Jules standing outside the truck’s rear passenger side, holding keys and a cup, before gunshots erupted.
The footage recorded by a female victim, aged 40, depicted Jules rummaging through the vehicle, disturbing a male driver who shouted, “Hey, you can’t go in my car.” He then threw liquid from his cup at the driver and reached for a semi-automatic pistol. The affidavit states that Jules pointed the firearm at the victim and racked the slide, warning of an imminent attack.
As the shooting unfolded, screams were heard in the video. The woman in the footage tried to escape, but Jules continued to fire, shooting her multiple times as she attempted to flee from the passenger side of the truck. He then closed the vehicle’s door and fled the scene.
Later that day, residents identified Jules from the video, leading police to arrest him at a friend’s house. Authorities observed him discarding a black semi-automatic pistol. Jules admitted the altercation stemmed from the victims owing him money and stated he was very angry at the time. He faces charges of two counts of first-degree murder and evidence tampering.
