West Ham Star Attacked by Fan at Airport En Route to International Duty
Former West Ham Player Nayef Aguerd Attacked at Airport
Former West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd was targeted in an incident at an airport while en route to join his national team. The Moroccan centre-back, now playing for Marseille in Ligue 1, was approached by a fan who initially asked for a selfie but then became aggressive and attempted to slap him.
Reports indicate that the confrontation was triggered after the fan’s request for a photo escalated into violence. Aguerd, 29, reassured supporters via Instagram that he was unharmed during the incident, stating that security personnel and law enforcement quickly intervened to resolve the situation.
He emphasized that the matter is now in police hands and expressed his focus on his club and country, encouraging respect and calmness. Aguerd is preparing to join Morocco’s squad for upcoming matches against Bahrain and Congo, alongside fellow players Sofyan Amrabat and Noussair Mazaraoui.
Aguerd’s club career includes a stint at West Ham, where he made 61 appearances and scored four goals after transferring from Rennes for £30 million. Last season, he was loaned to Real Sociedad before Marseille acquired him permanently this summer for around £20 million, following a decision by West Ham’s then-coach Graham Potter not to include him in the squad.
He has recently begun his tenure at Marseille, who are enjoying a strong start to the season, sitting second after seven matches and just one point behind PSG. Marseille’s sporting director, Medhi Benatia, highlighted that the coach was instrumental in bringing Aguerd to the team, citing a pre-season observation in the United States as pivotal.
